“Joanna has been a dream to work with! We didn't really know what we wanted our ceremony to look like without the religious framing to guide us. She is so knowledgeable and helpful, and she guided us in figuring out what would work best for us. Can't recommend highly enough!”
“We couldn’t have asked for anyone better to officiate our wedding. Would 100% recommend!”
“In every aspect of the process, from the interview to the drafting of the ceremony text to the execution of the event, we felt respected and valued as collaborators. We highly recommend her, especially if you're looking for someone to work with you to create a custom ceremony!”

Joanna is a public speaker, writer, singer and actor. She started with a family wedding and hasn’t looked back; she now marries all couples regardless of age, gender or race in ceremonies within 100 miles of Washington, DC. Joanna grew up in a multi faith household and lived abroad in Australia for a few years, so she loves to incorporate your cultural and religious traditions.
Joanna is married herself, and ended up with an elopement, formal wedding ceremony and separate reception to accommodate her family’s needs. This means Joanna has firsthand experience with all kinds of celebrations and is sensitive to the unique needs of each. She is ordained through American Marriage Ministries (AMM) and the Universal Life Church, and completed the Business of Officiating course from AMM. Joanna is also a member of the International Association of Professional Wedding Officiants (IAPWO) and is authorized to perform ceremonies in D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Delaware and West Virginia.
In her non officiating hours, Joanna walks her rescue dog, Corrigan, and reads obsessively. She is an alumna of the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), was a theatre/speech/debate kid growing up and enjoys attending live theatre and music. As a former nonprofit fundraiser, Joanna supports the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, Round House Theatre and Generation Hope, among other causes. She looks forward to working with you next!
